This weekend's batch of neighbors all went home, and marked another day of resolutions on my end. I don't advertise that we let people bring their dogs because I don't really want dogs here. But once in awhile someone talks me into it because their dog is such a dear part of their family and they can't seem to have a good time without him, and some of them are good customers who have been here several times before.
So I tell them that I am extremely reluctant to allow dogs because I don't want a bunch of crap all over the property, and if I let Fido come here, the owners MUST pick it all up after them. And they always say of course, they always do that.
The fellows who were here LAST weekend had three dogs between them, and they did do some picking up, but I was getting ready for this weekend and almost stepped in a giant dog dump on the front yard of the guest cabin. Cleaned that up, and made a note in the log book that those people can't bring their dogs again.
This weekend's guests insisted they had to bring the two dogs because the mother-in-law was coming and she would have been the one to watch the dogs if they left them at home. So I said okay, but you have to pick up after them. "Oh, yes! Absolutely!" he promised me.
So, after they left today, I was making up one of the beds, and actually stepped in dog crap right there in the bedroom. Jesus Christ! The bedroom! A person might be on the lookout for it outside in the grass, but certainly not between the bed and the wall where you can't even see it.
Well, of course they didn't pick up the poop in the yard, either. People are such effing liars, I can't believe it.
No, I am not going to charge an extra pet fee and allow pets. That just gives people permission to let them crap all over the place, because they figure they are paying me to do the clean up. We have 10 acres around the houses here, and I can't patrol the whole thing looking for dog messes. I'd rather lose business than put up with all that.
So irritating.
