We are very busy feeding the hummingbirds this summer. There are about 30 at the red cabin, 30 at the brown cabin, and 50 here at the house. We count them at dusk and dawn when they all show up at one time. The weather affects how much they eat: they load up before a rain storm, and slow down on a hot day.
Our feeders hold about 3 cups each, and each one has to be refilled two or three times a day.
Most of our birds are broadtails (red throats), and we have a few rufous (orange throats), and the other day we saw a calliope. Their throat is striped, and they are a smaller bird.
Here is a rufous guarding a feeder.
