The Neighborhood Cat

When Mr. Troutbend got here at the end of August, there was a cat that had claimed our back yard as her own. She spent a lot of time on the top of the cinderblock wall trying to catch birds, and stalking through the tall grass on the west side of the house.

She acted like a feral cat - ran when she saw us, hissed at us, and so on. Then, all of a sudden a couple days ago, she was friendly.

She'll come up to us in the yard and let us pet her. That first night she sat outside the patio door and meowed at us continually. I finally put out some food, but she wasn't interested in it. It's a relief to know she is getting enough food somwhere.

Look at her markings - she could be our Eloise's sister, but Eloise is prettier. The first time I saw Neighborhood Kitty, I thought she was very homely, but has grown on me, and she seems to have a sweet personality.

Neighborhood Kitty would love to come into the house, but Eloise has something to say about that, and we are afraid there will be biting and someone will end up with an abscess.

Here is our Christmas Day snowball - a light dusting of corn snow on the patio furniture.

She is also a very pretty kitty. Will you keep her?

Still up in the air about whether Chitty will come to Colorado for the summer. She spends a lot of time inside the house there in Las Vegas, and I know Mr. YouKnow enjoys her company a lot.

I think she is a beautiful cat. She and Eloise might just get along after
a little hissing. They do look like a matched pair.

She was homelier when I got here but now her fur has filled in and she's prettier. I agree they might get along, but YouKnow disagrees. We can't get too friendly with her because we'll be leaving. Of course, by then if we'd decided she was truly homeless, we would take her with us.

WHAT A CUTIE THAT ONE IS.

She got cuter when she got friendlier. Before that, we were kind of scared of her because she just hissed at us whenever she saw us in our yard.

She's a sweetie. Perhaps Eloise would get used to her...

I think Eloise would love to have another cat to play with. It's a bone of contention among the humans around here.

Are you willing to adopt Yard Kitty? If Eloise permits, that is. Sometimes initial enemies get used to each other and things work out. Keep us posted.

I would adopt her if she was truly homeless. The past couple of days she hasn't been around like she was for awhile there, so I think her family is taking better care of her now that it's cold outside.

I'm hoping she'll move indoors one day soon....

We're the backup plan.

When our old kitty met the new one, he was not a happy camper. They still hiss at each other. It's good that your 'yard kitty' doesn't need a home. That's the best kind of cat to have in my opinion!

We feel badly when she's out there late at night just looking into the house, but as long as she's just visiting and is otherwise happy, that's what counts.

Should we expect kittens soon?!?!?!?
comment by greatmartin on Dec 30, 2012 5:37 PM ()
I sure hope not.

Ah... a light dusting... how lucky you are. Happy New Year!
