Nature Pics

Once a week the generator turns itself on and runs for 12 minutes. This is the side where the warm air comes out. It chipped away at the snow, blowing it away in chunks rather than melting it.

There was an 8-hour break in period and I've put that many running hours on it so tomorrow I'm changing the oil to a 5W-30 synthetic oil rated to minus 10 below zero. The generator has an engine block heater and a pad heater under the battery.

I'm thinking a new reality show for television: Nature Meets the Generator (or vice versa). You'd make a great hostess.

I feel so 'John Denver' about it (in the 70s he installed a huge gasoline storage tank at his house in Aspen to avoid the gas shortages), but late in October we had three power outages, and I realized it was a good thing to have.

I can't get over all the snow you have already. Keep it,please. I am still not ready for winter. I have one more tree to lose its leaves.

We got more snow in October than all of 2010. It was really pretty, but now the days are trending toward colder, so I guess it's to say 'winter.' But I didn't say it very loud, so it could not possibly be heard all the way in Illinois, so you just keep telling that tree 'hang in there, summer's not over, I promise.'

There's going to be climate change in that area where the warm air blows out. Tropical plants.

You are amazing. You have a love affair with machinery.

Yes, it's like a new car (and cost about the same as a car if you left the tires and radio off), the apple of my eye. Fooled you with the title, didn't I?

I've never heard of machinery being so pampered. Next thing you know, you'll be knitting a blankie for it.

I changed the oil today (after the required break-in period) - kept thinking This is a man's job, and they would not struggle doing it like I am.
