Our Marmot

Here is the marmot we saw on the woodpile on July 4th. We've never seen one of them here, and haven't seen it since.

They are a member of the squirrel family, but many times larger than a regular tree squirrel.

He's good at camouflaging to his environment - cute little critter!

I suspect he's more fierce than he looks.

The only ones we've seen live high up in the national park along Trail Ridge Road. They live in rocks along the highway, bask in the sun all day, and flirt with the tourists who feed them illegally. Another name for them is whistle pig because their alarm call is a whistle.

He is cute. Wonder if you could tame him. That might be a bad idea.

It'd be nice if he was accustomed to seeing us and would stay out where we could look at him. We could point him out to people and say 'and there's our marmot.'

Hope he comes around again -- cute little guy. Or maybe it's a girl?

I don't think I'd want 20 or 50 of them, but if they kept the lawn nice by eating the dandelions, I wouldn't mind having a few.

He must have gotten lost.

Must have. I wouldn't mind if he stayed around so we could get to know him better.

Okay I have old eyes--I don't see him!!!

He is on the rock in the top right corner of the pile. I had trouble picking him out too. Second picture, he is more prominent.

Not even in the second picture?
