Well Nevada hasn't made Statehood yet--they have been bluffinf it!

Very interesting. Many questions reside in these bits of trivia, e.g., how did "hot dogs" get their name, and why is ground meat without ham called a HAMburger? And, is Col. Sanders a Mormon?

Another research opportunity for us! Thanks for telling me about that road closure southwest of Page, AZ. I spent a happy couple of hours reading the news stories and looking at the pictures. I feel the sorriest for the people at Marble Canyon because they were about 25 miles from Page, and now it's 151 miles. I think that road was widened and improved since I was last on it, and I wonder how much that contributed to that landslide.

No wonder hamburgers and Dr. Pepper are a food group...our neighbors
invented them.

There is a place in New Haven, CT called Louie's Lunch, and they claim they invented the hamburger in 1900, but Texas has more beef.

UTAH??? Then why isn't it called Utah Fried Chicken?
comment by nittineedles on July 30, 2013 7:55 PM ()
I was surprised at that, too. They must have thought Utah needed some allegedly southern type food.

And the State bird of Florida is the 'early bird' and goes 'cheap cheap'--all 49 other States send their worst drivers to Florida---we also have THE most corrupt politicians of any State--7 are currently in jail-- should I go on????
comment by greatmartin on July 30, 2013 7:11 PM ()
Illinois is here depicted as being the most corrupt state, but I'll go with Florida every time.

Looking at the states I know something about, I can't help but wonder why they picked THAT particular trait. And they totally skipped Nevada.
