Kitchen Design and Decor

Bittersweet orange, a nice warm color that is close to like a mellower pumpkin orange is not good to use in the kitchen because it supposedly stimulates our appetite.

I just read an article about kitchen design features that can cause us to gain weight.

Here's the kitchen design elements they said would cause a person to gain weight: A TV in the kitchen, and worse, a little desk for it and the computer so you spend more time in there near the food, and mindless eating while distracted. Task lighting in the kitchen, a walk-in pantry, a small space between sink-stove-fridge, a breakfast bar or kitchen table with chairs. Open shelves displaying food, glass door on the refrigerator.

All of those things are what I consider to be trendy kitchen features, and if I saw that kitchen, I would think the owner was fashionable and slender and attractive, as well as wealthy. The only one my kitchen has is the small work triangle.

We've had very cold weather lately, but today is sunny and inching toward 50 degrees with warming winds. But tomorrow more snow is coming and Tuesday night's low temperature is supposed to be 7 below zero.

I'm going to plant my indoor seeds right now while today's spring-like weather has me in the mood.

People who write these articles are always looking for an angle. My kitchen needs a re-do but I don't like orange anywhere anyway. 7 below scares me. You're in me thoughts.

As long as there is food in the kitchen the rest doesn't really matter.

I thought it was really stretching the point.

The best antidote for mindless eating is to stay out of the kitchen,
don't ever bake and don't watch tv.

I was thinking of setting up a tent in the back yard - get away entirely.

My downfall is the fact that I have a fridge in my kitchen and some of the cupboards contain food.

I go through times when I don't grocery shop for weeks, reducing the amount of food in the house, and then I read another article about emergency preparedness and it says have food for 5 days on hand.

I use graph paper to draw the standard cabinet shapes to scale and tape them together to make 3-D shapes, and then use an empty box for the room and rearrange them in it to see how it will look and feel. There's computer modeling, but this way always works better for me.

Can't blame my kitchen for my weight either. In fact it's an exercise space when I get up. But other areas, it's a different story...

I've always wanted blue countertops, so am thinking about that for this one I'm designing.
