Spring is Back and Cabin Progress

Our weather is warming up into the low 50s during the day, and the snow is quickly disappearing. I have been away from home the last couple of days so feel out of touch with my cabin elevation project.

The entire floor in the log part of the cabin is gone, as well as the framing on the doors and old windows on the back wall. The next step is to stabilize it by putting a cable from wall-to-wall to tie the opposite walls together.

This is a 1 inch by 18 inch board. You can't buy those these days. It is rough cut Douglas fir, cut out of a really large tree, probably in 1910 when the log cabin was built.

For the scenery fans, here is how the river looked a couple of days ago:

I would be terribly discouraged by all the debris in the cabin. Is that stuff going to be reused?

We're saving out as much as we can. A lot of that debris is full of rodent poop and pee.

With the snow melting I hope you don't get floods again!

Should be okay, but we don't want a bunch of rain on top of the snow in late April/early May.

Construction is when the fun starts!

I sure hope so. Last night, maybe in a dream, I had a vision of where to put the new bedroom, and it got me thinking in a whole new direction.

You must be eager to have that project done. It will be super.

As we move along, 'done' seems further and further away, but I'm trying to keep a good thought.
