Here's what's happening here on the Big Thompson this week:
An elk came to visit.
A robin is sitting on her nest.
The woodwork and doors at the new cabin - it's going so slowly I hesitate to call it 'progress.'

Smart birds. They know how to raise independent children. What are your rates for the nest?
Love to see big wildlife so close. What a great spot. Miss the fox and the gooose.
I remember that it gets a little chilly in August at your house. Wish we could share some of it.
We spot the young birds of various species because they follow the parents around the yard demanding food, and the parents ignore them.
So that's where my elk friend disappeared to--guess the summers were too hot for him here!
That elk is very well fed. And the bird looks all too comfortable. Do they lay eggs this late in summer? Reminds me I have to go tear down the ivy that keeps climbing the wall, before a bird builds a nest in it again.
I was fortunate enough for the first time to have robins build a nest in the lilacs at shoulder level. Got some great nest-cam video! The coolest part was when mom stopped the free food and the babies kept begging. Humans can learn a lesson from birds as well as other animals.
