Hello from Colorado

We're one lightning bolt or careless campfire or illegal firework away from a wildfire here. Today I nagged my Facebook group audience to take a few minutes to think about what they need to gather up in case they get the reverse 9-1-1 call to evacuate. Generally, there is a warning to get ready just in case, but worst case is 30 minutes or less to get out. And we're all supposed to update our household inventory either via video or photographs. Now that nobody has to use cameras with film, there's no excuse for not taking as many pictures as needed.

The fire department in Fort Collins, our county seat distributed these free signs.

Here in the canyon, we're thinking of developing a year-round No Fireworks sign program similar to Neighborhood Watch where everyone in a neighborhood would agree it can be posted, and use their HOA, if they have one, or peer pressure to enforce it.

My cats have been absolutely frightened the last couple nights. Social retards in the neighborhood are setting off bombs and it is illegal here, but the cops never come.
Five years ago someone used the trunk lid of my car out back to set off bottle rockets and squealers. It cost my car insurance company over a thousand dollars to pay for the damage to be repaired and painted.

That is a scary thing to live with. Do they actually call you on the phone, in the case of an evacuation order?

We can pick what areas/towns we are interested in, and notification types (weather events, power outage updates, missing child, missing adult, law enforcement activity, flood/wildfire). One option is when they are spraying for West Nile Mosquitos in the towns.

People are supposed to sign up all their phones so if they are away from home, at work for example, they will get notifications on their cell phone. And friends/family in other states can be signed up in order to get the notifications and know what is going on for their relatives in Colorado.

It's frightening to think that one obstinate person (no one tells me what to do) can cause a devastating fire.

Out here in the rural areas there is a lot of that because they moved up here to be away from near neighbors so they can do what they want.
