Good Listening Music

It's been awhile since I've said hello to you all. Phew! Earlier today MyBloggers.com was as slow as molasses, even on my DSL connection. It's better now, so what a relief.

Do you like music from the 1950s and 1960s? Kind of silly music like Spike Jones? I found an online radio station called Pandora (www.Pandora.com) where I did a search on "Spike Jones" and it automatically plays fun songs by Louis Prima, Spike Jones, and various guy groups from the 60s. Right now it's playing Mellow Yellow by Donovan, and a minute ago it was Wilson Pickett singing Stagger Lee.

The other genre I picked was Traditional Folk, so there I've got Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, Doc Watson, Odetta, The Carter Family, and other legends of folk.

Recently we ordered DVDs about Leonard Cohen from Netflix. The first one was from the 1960s when he was a young guy, Canada's answer to Bob Dylan. It was a puzzling thing to watch because here was this 20 sonething rich kid living in Greece and writing poetry. The film was about when he visited Canada to do some readings.

The second one we got was filmed when he was in his 70s, so it made a nice bookend for the earlier look at him. There wasn't much of him singing his own songs, they were mostly his songs sung by other people, and it was filmed at a concert in Australia. We both enjoyed it a lot and the songs spoke to me in such a way I felt like he must be someone my own age or even a little younger, and it made me want to shoot a movie and use some of those songs in the sound track.

Leonard Cohen has been one of my favorites for years. I especially loved him doing "Tower of Song". we have an oldie goldie station that plays all the old ones.

Hi, These are great oldies, but they're not writing them like that any more. When I was newly married to Jay, we went to a Richard Dyer-Bennett concert, and Jay took me backstage to meet him because they were friends. That was phenomenal. xx, T.
