Fox Tracks

One of the reasons I was looking forward to yesterday's snow storm was it would allow me to see the animal tracks.

Here is what I decided:

One fox came from the direction of the highway on the river ice, then cut into the yard in front of the house next door.

It crossed over to my side yard and came up near the dining room window where I put out the food.

Several other animals, either foxes or coyotes, came along the river ice and up the river bank to the feeding spot. They left toward the mountain behind us, where our regular fox always came from.

Tonight, I will sit next to the window in the dark and try to see who shows up.

You are so crafty. Love all the activity and that you keep track of it!

I saw some sign of deer on the other side of the bridge, but they don't seem to come around the house like they used to. I might see a bear or two within the next couple of weeks.

I bet your fox made some of the tracks and he may have brought his kits.

There were a whole lot more tracks all over the river ice today, so a bunch of somebodies was around last night. The little foxes would be born in March, so it's too soon for them to be out and about.

I am hoping your special fox shows up soon.

I hope and hope. That other fox that comes around is so wild and just takes off when she glimpses us.

It seems like forever. Last summer he was here only once a week instead of every day, and I hope he hasn't totally forgotten about us.

We have to have a party for our fox--especially if he shows up with a few kids/pups/kit!!!!!

I am very disappointed that he has never brought his family where we could see them.

I saw on the news that Denver got a big snow storm. I hope you got some too to help with your drought. We got a lot of snow but still not enough to bring us up to predrought conditions. I am awaiting the return of your fox.

It was a good-sized storm, but the ground is so warm, the roads didn't freeze, and the storm moved out by 4 pm. The state needs 8 to 10 feet of snow in the mountains this spring or Denver is going to be on strict water restrictions (we all will be). I'm not sure how long before I give up hoping the fox will show up - maybe a month.

After a snow here, the only tracks we see in the snow are from feral cats coming and going to my wife's feeding station. Once in awhile a skunk. Jack rabbits have disappeared.

We used to have a single rabbit here with a distinctive design in its fur so we knew it was the same rabbit. It was around for several years, and then I think our fox ate it. Can't have it both ways.
