Family Research

One of my cousins emailed today that he has made contact with some second cousins we knew about, but they were the black sheep branch of the family because their mother wasn't very choosy about who she slept with.

Here is how my cousin described the conversation with the 89 year-old son of this woman:

"You know my Granddad married my Mom after my Dad left".  I told him that I was aware of that.  Later he said, "My mom married old Bob and he was the father of Glenn, that was kind of a messed up deal."

One of the sons was born blind because his mother had venereal disease. I never met any of them, even though we passed their place on the road from town to my grandparents' trading post, but I saw one of them once at a funeral.

I'm glad we've made contact after all these years. The colorful history doesn't matter, just makes the stories more interesting.

I never realized how dysfunctional my generation was until I started living near my sister and brother-in-law down here. Later life has not served them well.

Thinking of members of my parents' generation and how they handled unusual situations in their families, I agree that some of the dysfunction could have been avoided. Hugs to all your kitties down there in sunny Florida.

That was probably considered scandalous when it happened. Well, it is still a little scandalous.

Today my cousin found out that she thought her third husband was the only man who was ever good to her so she was literally buried at his feet - her grave runs perpendicular to his, at his feet. I can't decide if it's sweet and romantic or pathetic.

She would probably be considered normal in this day and age.

It's like a Jerry Springer show without the yelling.

This is so interesting. I love family stories. I just wrote down my
memories of the depression years for my children and grand children. I
feel they need to know these things.

It's nice to find out what her children have to say about it, doesn't sound like they are bothered. Well, what choice do they have? Might as well laugh as cry.

Way back in our (Mom's) family, two brothers were married to ladies. They both divorced and within a few months had married each others' ex-wives. Go figure.

I hope that once they got to the greener grass, it really was greener.

Don't want to know any of my family--I made my own families over the years and love them all!

A lot of us have done that to one degree or another.
