Home & Garden > Christmas Survey

Christmas Survey

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags?
Neither - I just hand somebody whatever and say 'here. From me. Merry Christmas.'

2. Real tree or Artificial?
Fiber optic artificial. $2.50 at an auction. Put it up for about a week then took it down because I'll be away for Christmas.

3. When do you put up the tree?
First snowfall in December.

4. When do you take the tree down?
When it feels like sooner is better than later.

5. Do you like eggnog?
Love it. I make a lower calorie one that is cooked like soft custard to give it body instead of heavy cream. But it's not as good as commercial.

6. Favorite gift received as a child?
A new bicycle.

7. Hardest person to buy for?
Buddy the Interstate Cat. He wants to play with the wrappings not the gifts.

8. Easiest person to buy for?
Mr. Troutbend because he doesn't expect anything.

9. Do you have a nativity scene?
Yes. It is 55 years old and in bad shape, but I love it.

10. Mail or email Christmas cards?
Hard copy cards to whomever possible. There are a few people for whom all I have is an email address so I try to send them a nice winter photo of the river.

11. Worst Christmas gift you ever received?
A collection of kitchen items from Mr. Troutbend. I think he tried very hard, but it was just pathetic.

12. Favorite Christmas Movie?
Bad Santa.

13. When do you start shopping for Christmas?
I don't shop for it. I make things and for the rest I just walk around the house and find things to pass along to a new home.

14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present?
Yes!

15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas?
Eggnog and fruitcake and oyster stew.

16. Lights on the tree?
It's fiberoptic because Buddy the Bah Humbug Cat bites the lightbulbs off the branches.

17. Favorite Christmas song?
Adeste Fidelis.

18. Travel at Christmas or stay home?
Try to stay home, wherever we are calling home at the time.

19. Can you name all of Santa's reindeer's?
Not sure.

20. Angel on the tree top or a star?
Flashing star from the 1950s.

21. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning?
Christmas eve.

22. Most annoying thing about this time of the year?
All the pressure on people to spend money when they can't afford to.

23. Favorite ornament theme or color?
There are themes?.

24. Favorite for Christmas dinner?
Scalloped oysters, cranberry sauce, that frozen fruit salad with cranberry sauce and cream cheese in it, green bean casserole, some ham maybe.

25. What do you want for Christmas this year?
Vacuum cleaners.

26. Outdoor decorations?
Blue icicle lights on a timer in Las Vegas. I put a couple strings on the bridge here in Colorado for a week and then took them down. They were the old-fashioned big bulbs.

Merry Christmas everybody.

I love Bad Santa! "Can I fix you a sandwich?" That, and the wooden pickle crack me up.

I absolutely love your answers! AND, I am so happy about #12! I haven't seen it yet, but just bought it yesterday! I haven't wrapped my husband's birthday presents yet (just before Christmas). I think I won't this year and just hand them to him and say, "Here."

Love this survey. If I need to wrap, Ted does it. I am all thumbs.

Haven't done a tree since Chicago and I was alone doing it -- everybody out of the house but me. We are talking 1955 here. Jay was not religious and the loft was a lab. Ed is Jewish. I would be happy with some outdoor house lights because the nabes do them and some are really nice. Maybe next year. There will however be a boat parade and even though at this moment, we are not in the mood, we will probably have a few people over for it who would otherwise not see it because they are not on the water. That and Christmas Day dinner are all we do and the dinner right now is also iffy. We are feeling down. Most everybody who comes for Christmas Day dinner is Jewish. Works for me.
