What's in the Camera: Handicapped Fishing

Looking back to some of my Colorado pictures, here are some sights from along the highway near where I live. Everyone calls it Handicapped Fishing because of the sign on the highway.

[I was going to post a picture of the sign, but MyBloggers's photo upload is broken right now, good thing I got my other photos in here before that happened.]

Here are the words: It is a brown sign with a square icon for fishing and a square icon indicating wheelchair access. Everybody refers to it as handicapped fishing.

There are steps going down near the river, and a ramp.

Over to the side is a ramp for wheelchairs. I've never seen anyone in wheelchairs or those scooters there, but did see a wedding there one time.

This is a display from Russia of different colors of foxes.

Reading your comments, I got worried. Did something happen to your/our fox?? I know I've been in and out and haven't read every post, but how very sad if something happened to him....

What a relief.... I pray for the dear guy all winter.

No, he's still fine, as far as I know. I have to keep reminding myself that he is not going to live forever, and I get morbid sometimes, thinking of him on his own all winter. I try not to take it for granted that I'll see him again, especially after a long absence.

Pretty foxes! It's good to know that there are even handicap accessible fishing holes. I never would have thought!

It's a nice safe way for people to get a good look at the river. Able-bodied folks scoff at it as catering to couch potatoes, but for the less mobile (and plenty of ambulatory tourists), it's a wonderful opportunity.

poor foxes.

They all died natural deaths out in the Russian steppes.

Lovely spot for any visitor. I love the photo of the Russian foxes. Da.

I miss my own fox so much. There will never be another like him.

Very cool set-up on the river, though I was surprised to see steps, but then I spied the ramp. It would be a great place to take photos.

There is a lot more ramp off to the left. The steps are a shortcut. That whole deal there should be haunted: in 2002 a lawyer from Loveland killed himself at that rest stop.

The foxes are beautiful but seeing them preserved by a taxidermist is sad.

We'll pretend they all died naturally many decades ago. I have a mounted deer head I bought at auction for $25 and it was killed in the 1930s.

That black and white Russian fox is stunning. It would be a beautiful
spot for a wedding.

That other fox at my place has a funny look about it, and I'm so glad my favorite fox is so attractive and looks more like most of the foxes we see in pictures.

Why you have not seen anyone using it in a wheel chair it has-- STEPS--me and my walker i use when away would be ok, i can carry it down, one at the whale watching centre has ramps and it would be 4 times the size it zig zags down
Looks a nice spot being shallow and the water running fast ---would it be a trout stream?
comment by kevinshere on Dec 1, 2012 4:26 PM ()
It has a ramp in addition to the steps, they just didn't get captured in the pictures. Yes, it's a good trout stream.

Looks like a pretty area just for relaxing!!

It really is nice! There is a good-sized parking area, and a lot of the local delivery men in their trucks stop there for lunch or a break. And the kayakers use it as a take-out area.

I just finished making a comment on another blog about a suggestion to land management of the Catskills to have stairs on the trails to make hiking the high peaks easier. Guess stairs isn't unreasonable? Looks like the next guy will want ramps.... Use to be that you'd get yourself in shape, then hike, but society is changing its views...

It's just one little place along the river, not an epidemic of pandering to the unfit. We'll keep a good thought that the exposure to nature will inspire the couch potatoes to get fit and go further afield.

"you'd get yourself in shape, then hike," NEVER!!!! Not me!!!!!
