Bowling

This past weekend Mr. Troutbend participated in a bowling tournament. He didn't place high enough to get any cash, but came home with two new balls, a shirt, and a bag for the balls.

This year he changed from a 15 pound ball to 14 pounds, and feels like his game has improved. One of the best things about him is he has no ego - some guys insist on using the heaviest ball, 16 pounds, because they think that's more manly. It's not as if the different weighted balls are different colors, they all look alike. The only way anyone is going to know how much your ball weighs is if they pick it up, and nobody touches your junk in bowling, so that's a bit of empty pride.

At the time he worked for Martin-Marietta writing software that controlled how the protective foam was sprayed onto the space shuttle's external tank.

Kudos to Mr. Troutbend!
For a number of years, my hubbie and I bowled with a couples league in the winter. It was really a weekly social outing while we stir-crazy golfers were waiting for spring to come so we could back on the golf course. It was fun, and the bowling was always followed by a group dinner at a succession of local great restaurants. As for the bowling, we were all competitive souls, but no one had the finesse and style of Mr. T.

We used to be on mixed leagues together, and I'm glad, because I know what he's talking about, but I'm not here in Las Vegas enough of the year to be on a league with him now.

Really something, aren't they? In 1976 he was living in an apartment in Louisiana, bowling 4 nights a week, eating standing over the sink. We knew each other then, but it'd be a couple of years before he moved back to Colorado and we started dating.

He look like a young Martin.

I hadn't thought of that. Martin seems taller, but maybe he isn't.

I'll stick to duck pins!

We've never bowled duck pins, it's an eastern thing, and I don't think they have it anywhere in the west. It would be fun to try some time.
