Big Surprise

This morning the county bridge guys showed up and repaired the metal rails on the sides of our bridge.

Two days after the worst of the flooding:

That truck has a welding set up on it.

All done. It looks just like the flood never happened, and brings a tear to my eye because it's an island of 100% recovery in the midst of chaos. My proof that all will be better sooner than I know it.

We're so fortunate that the bridge didn't have a lot of damage, and once the three things wrong with it were fixed, it turned out to be the least of our worries. Or MY worries, anyway. I don't think Mr. YouKnow wastes much time thinking about it.

Good! Now no one will slip off the sides into the river when it gets snowy and icy. I didn't realize that your bridge was so narrow.

It's just barely wide enough for the Propane truck or hopefully a fire truck. (not that I hope to need a fire truck) All of the county bridges have those landscape beams along the edges of the deck to deflect the tires in case something was going to drive off the side. Before the flood some of them had just those low-down beams, and a few had more elaborate wooden sides. I like the pipes because they give a visual stop for the eye, but are open enough to enjoy the view. My dad had wiring set up so he could hang decorative lanterns off the corner posts and there is a light switch in the dining room to control them. Now, the wiring is ripped out by the flood, and I don't know if we will set all that up again. No idea of what we could do with that extra light switch now - probably nothing - it'll just take up room on the dining room wall.

They look as busy as your local beaver used to be. I am so glad your property is accessible now. I often wonder about Quackers, too.

I've still got road issues, but the edge is off, and things will surely keep coming along. It always seems slow during the process. Hugs to all those cats.

How absolutely wonderful.

Of all things, I wasn't expecting this, thought they had more important things to do, and if they'd asked me, I don't know if I'd have said 'come on down' because I've got higher priorities, but I didn't know how much I'd like it until it was done.

What's really good is when it snows several inches, smoothing out all the chaos, and for a few moments when I look out there, I can forget about it all. But eventually, all will be well.
