New Year-new Year

Like New York-New York, right?

Best wishes for a Happy New Year to all of you.

These holidays at the start of the week throw off my internal clock because of all the football watching. We are in college bowl marathon mode, and with all the channel switching and commercial muting it's hard for me to keep track of which teams are outstanding, so my focus is a play at a time, hoping for something interesting to happen, like an interception or fumble or game ejection-worthy penalty. College football is more exciting in some ways than Pro football because the players aren't as polished so make more mistakes.

I've got some projects to get out of the way, have to tear myself away from the gas fire to get started on them because our winter goal seems to be to get through the whole winter without firing up the forced air furnace. We haven't discussed it, but that seems to be what's going on. The house is around 55 degrees most of the time. I get by with lots of layers and an electric mattress pad.

This wasn't my favorite Christmas by a long shot, so I'll work on making the next one better somehow. Heck, that goes for the whole year - thinking about what I can do to make it better than last year on the personal satisfaction scale.

Happy New Year. That would take a lot of layers at 55 deg.

The other day when it was supposed to get below freezing here in Las Vegas he told me I could turn up the heat if I wanted to, and then he went bowling, so I cranked it up to 75 for a bit just because I could. Very nice. And then I got hot with all the layers on and put it back to 65.

I know what you mean about making this year better. This past year has been just ... something else. I'm deciding on some projects I never got to start at all, that I'd like to do.

You had more wildlife issues than I did this past year, and I live out in the woods. Well, okay, the bear walking through our guest house to get to the kitchen and raid the refrigerator - that was a bit of a deal, but your Puxatawney Phil family stayed around a lot longer.

Dog sitting is a lot of responsibility. No personal satisfaction. Jose just ran the other two off.

Reminds me of that saying about one of the joys of being a grandparent - they go home.
