Small Plane Rear-ends Lexus

This would be covered by the airplane's insurance. I don't know how much insurance is required for aviation. My dad had a million dollar policy on his Cessna, I found out when he crashed it, and we needed every penny of it.

Napa County, CA — A small plane rear-ended a car on Highway 29, after the plane made an emergency landing near Napa County on Sunday afternoon, August 28, 2011. The collision took place on Highway 29 near Airport Boulevard around 12:35 p.m., reported the San Jose Mercury News.

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the Beechcraft A36 Bonanza lost power and crash landed on the highway, where it rear-ended a 2007 Infiniti.

Three people, including the driver of the Infiniti and two of its passengers, were injured in the crash. Responding emergency crews rushed them to Queen of the Valley Medical Center for medical treatment.
The two people in the four-seater plane were not injured in the crash.
The aircraft was planning to land at the Napa County Airport before the plane lost power. Officials say several factors could have contributed to the power failure, like not having enough fuel in the tank.
The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are investigating the plane crash.

Beware of planes landing on a highway--or river!

I've been flying with my dad under cloudy conditions in high mountains and we discussed the feasibility of going to a low altitude and following a river out of the mountains. There are drawbacks to this - tight bends in the river for one thing, low clouds for another. We decided not to do it, but I've seen helicopters trying to do that very thing going over Wolf Creek Pass on the way to the Four Corners.

That is a most unlikely accident.

Usually when they DO land on the highway the cars get out of the way somehow. Of all the stories I've read about this kind of landing (several a year) I've never heard of the airplanes hitting any cars.
