A while back I told you about Fish Dog, a golden retriever that can guide you to where the fishing is good.
Here are a couple of other stories from the fishing club newsletter:
Rainbow Catches Mice
"We were fishing along with I noticed a couple of big trout in a frenzy: there was a large dead mouse under water, which the fish were fighting over. We moved on, but came back later and found one large female rainbow (trout) with the mouse in its mouth. Upon seeing me, the fish lost its hold on the mouse, which began to drift downstream. Thinking fast, I cast my #8 Brown Wooly Bugger (that's a trout fly) between the drifting mouse and the pursuing rainbow. Success! The fish measured 22 inches, and once I released it, it immediately set out after that mouse."
I've read that mice can swim, and when I catch a mouse (like last night) I give them a fighting chance at survival by throwing them in the river.
Brown Catches Snake
"A guy caught a 15-inch brown trout, and as he played it to the side of the river, he noticed the loop of a dead snake was sticking out of its mouth. The snake was much longer than the trout, about 1 1/2 inches diameter."
It's hard to imagine a fish being able to kill a snake, so maybe it was already dead when the fish came across it.
would lick an intruder to death.
