Latest from Las Vegas

I don't post here as much as I thought I would. I have ideas, but when I get into this editing box, they don't seem all that exciting. Sometimes I say to myself: "yes, this is interesting, but why should I tell them?

Weather report: it has been unseasonably warm in Las Vegas this fall. The leaves are starting to turn color on the trees, but meanwhile the daily highs are in the high 80s sometimes close to 100 degrees. Folks are complaining about allergies.

This is the pool at the Imperial Palace Hotel in Las Vegas. He's been staying there some lately, so I hope he's been taking pictures of the rooms.

If the recession hadn't come along and put a crimp in financial things for Las Vegas, the Imperial Palace would have been imploded by now. It is dump-esque.

Actually, the decline of investment in Las Vegas is not all due to the American economy. The big gaming companies are putting their money into building properties in Macau and other Asian venues. Another downer for Las Vegas is the imminent legalization of online gambling in the United States. The town is going to struggle to remain viable.

Yes, I like this site. I'll visit more frequently this winter when time allows. But Vegas? Not my cup of tea.

My plumber is a great hunter, so when the boiler company sent him on a free trip to Las Vegas last year he enjoyed a visit to the very large shooting range on the north side of town. I'm trying to think what you would enjoy there, coming up with a blank. Maybe Hoover Dam or Red Rock Canyon.

Part of it is that I'll want to write about a particular event, and then I decide to wait until it matches the season - for example writing about somewhere we went in October when it actually is October.

And now South Florida, foolishly, want to go BIG with hotel-casinos

The proliferation of casinos in all of the states is yet another nail in Nevada's coffin. This is history repeating itself because Nevada used to be the divorce capital and then all the states made it easier, and all those divorce ranches went bankrupt.

What do you mean, "Why should I tell them?" We hang on your every word!
Seriously, I enjoy your travel tales. It's unlikely I'll ever get to see these places in person.

I'll try to do better. I just thought of one right now.
