Bear Causes $35,000 Damage to Car

"ESTES PARK, Colo. -- A bear totaled a car belonging to an Estes Park family, causing an estimated $35,000 in damage to the interior.

The family was not at home when the bear somehow managed to get into the unlocked car by pawing the driver's side door until it opened. Once inside, the family theorizes, the door shut behind the bruin, trapping it inside.

The interior of the car was literally ripped apart by the panicked bear as it tried to get out of the car.

When the family arrived home later Sunday evening, they noticed the passenger's side door was open. When they looked inside, they were stunned by the damage.

The insurance company totaled the car after getting the $35,000 repair estimate.

The family told the Estes News that there must have been a candy wrapper left in the car."

My Dad's dog ate the dash on a new Karmen Ghia of mine once. The children
had left the door open and he wasn't trapped.

One of those corgis who used to come see me would chew up the inside of the car if he was put in there for any amount of time before they started the car and hit the road. I was afraid to put him in my truck because I didn't want it ruined.

The bear pooped in the back seat, too. That must have been a pretty fancy car for $35,000 - maybe real leather upholstery the bear tore up.

I'd better get the candy wrappers out of my car.

Yes, you had better do that. Some people around here claim their local bear was breaking into their car all the time just because he liked the new car smell.
