Then and Then

Here is our Brown Palace after the 1976 flood, sometime after the bridge was replaced.image

Back in 1976, that cabin was called Weona Place (say it out loud), and my mother changed the name to the Brown Palace, had it painted on the back of the Weona sign.

This second picture was taken in 2006. That cat looks like our Buddy, but he's a Maine Coon cat named Baby.

It's interesting to look at the old pictures that were taken when I was off being a young career woman so didn't get to visit up here very often. Also, we forget. What I see in them now is much more relevant now that I can compare them to what I see after this recent flood. I'm thinking, thinking, thinking about what we can do to improve things in order to survive the next flood.

Haven't heard weona before. Maybe sometime I'll get to use it. My buddy is not that creative. He put a road sign at the end of his driveway, "Adam Street". Not sure how his wife feels about that.

Some of the old cabin names were clever, and I miss people doing that. My folks always referred to their properties according to owned them in the past: the Brown Palace at one time belonged to Katie Brown. We all got another crack at it when the county wanted us to give names to our private roads - within their constraints.

Love those Maine Coon cats!! Weona is a clever name.

Those two cats lived next for 6 months a few years ago, and their owner was an oddball, but I really liked them. They were as much fun as the fox.
