Stormy Weather

Friday the 15, 2011, now the day before yesterday, was a booger. Before daylight a storm came through, and it was one after another until 2am Saturday morning. Tornadoes on the ground between Beaumont and McLain, Richton, Leakesville, all over. I heard the Piggly Wiggly store and Farm Bureau office in Leakesville were heavily damaged.

Valentina was on the road, coming to see me and got in a hailstorm as a tornado passed over. Hailstones pelted and dinged her car--she tried to get under the overhang at the BP station, but it was crammed with other cars. The lights went off so I tried to lie down and sleep it out, but tornado warnings were repeated over and over on the radio and when some strong winds came over I thought here it comes, I'm gonna be blown away like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz.

It wasn't until 2am when I heard the frogs peeping that I knew for sure the bad weather had passed. My nerves were shot, and realize I am NOT ready for the imminent hurricane season.

Going to bed when the power goes out is what I do, too, especially when it's cold weather.

I need to find my little battery radio so I could listen to music or something and drown out the sounds of winds.

We had winds up here (which is unusual for this area), but nothing like what was going on down there. Hurricane season must suck. We worry when remnants of hurricanes come this way bringing just flooding rain.

Hi jj; my daughter in Texas said "come over and stay with me this hurricane season" but the season begins in May and lasts for six or seven months--so that's not feasible. I wish I had a basement to retreat to in storms, but houses down here don't have basements.
You're lucky to be where you are!

I was worried for you, listening to the horrendous storm news updates. So glad you are okay. A dear friend has family in Arkansas, which got hammered, too. Fortunately, all seem to have had it through safely. How right you are. Storms like that jangle the nerves but good! Take best care.

Through my clumsy typing you've become "narta!"

narta, I was always stoic about bad weather until Katrina, and now myself and a lot of other folks have some sort of PTSD and get the heebie jeebies when tornado weather comes--but who wouldn't?

I have to confess that I love storms but hate the damage that mother nature
can inflict.

jeri, one of the most beautiful and awesome sights I ever saw was a summer heat lightning storm on the horizon. Nature can be spectacular for sure.

Glad you came through it all okay. We've dodged hurricanes the past several years; they tend to group together it seems.

Dear teal, Yep, my neighborhood dodged a bullet for sure.
