Let's see: Thursday it was 84 degrees and humid--last night came rolling severe thunderstorms. Started in evening and went on all night. Boom! Crash! Lightning! Rain! What to do but read because the rain drowned out the Direct TV signal and couldn't get on the compooter. Methuselah is in his dotage, but don't want lightning to get him.
Catching up on this week's newspapers read this: Nassau Bahamas--Anna Nicole's sons' death has been ruled an accidental drug overdose. London: "No Foul Play Evident in Diana's Death." (I thought those matters had ben settled and the book closed a long time ago.)
Another story on the same page: "It's OK to skip mouth-to-mouth for cardiac arrest in adults." This article asserts 100 chest presses a minute will suffice until a defibrillator is available." No more of that cardio-pulmonary resuscitation of old. Permit me to say it's better than nothing, but why bother?
Chest compressions alone rarely do the job--in fact the whole megilla of the old routine of compressions alternated with mouth to mouth was mostly futile. Been there, done that so many times in hospital settings. When it works it works splendidly, but as I say it rarely brought a patient back to a good quality of life. Susil
