Project Runway

Every Thursday night I make time for Project Runway, a show on Lifetime. This show is a hoot! Designers and wanna be designers (I think the show started out with about 16 this season) come to Parson's School of Design and each week face a new challenge--like making an outfit with materials bought at a party store. Or this week, making an outfit to match the outrageous hats of a famous hat designer.

Model Heidi Klum, designer Michael Kors, and Nina Garcia from Marie Claire magazine are the judges. The first week a designer named Casanova made an outfit using a scarf, attached to other scarves on the bottom. The model came down the runway and the judges were frowning at Casanova's design--then the model turned and she was naked from her neck down to her butt crack. Judge Kors said "She looks like a transvestite flamenco dancer at a funeral!"

He said of another designer's creation "It looks like a pinata exploded!" And of another design, he said "It looks like Mad Max--Mel Gibson on the top; Tina Turner on the bottom!"
Oh what can I say--it is a fun show. And if you hear these buzz words at the Academy Awards or other Hollywood shows : "Her gown looked like a Project Runway reject" then you know that outfit was pretty darn bad!

Somehow, models aren't my thing. I don't even watch the Victoria Secret extravaganza, and I'm not dead yet!

It isn't about the models it's about what the designers cook up to send down the runway. Fun.

Some people have no common sense, Ms. Teal. I will look for it Sue.

Sounds like my kind of show. I'll go over there to Lifetime and find it. Thanks for the heads-up, Sue.

Comes on every Thursday nite, 7pm here. They repeat last week's show before the new one--you've gotta see those outrageous hats!

Do you remember the designer, Rudi Gernreich, who came out with a topless bathing suit? Also, there was an incident where a woman wore a topless dress to the opera. Can't find the newspaper item, tho. The other patrons made unflattering remarks and she and escort left early. It was in the papers the next day.

A topless dress to the opera! Oh my!
The topless bathing suit designer--never hear of him anymore. The bottoms to the topless top were exceptionally ugly I thought.
