Words are powerful things. Today I was gassing up the car and a woman came up to me saying "You don't remember me, do you?" No I didn't. She said she'd gone to school with my daughter, but I still didn't recognize her. She had changed so much.

But she said:
"About three years ago I was feeling so down, I phoned my sister, but mis-dialed her number and got you instead. We talked for almost an hour, and I poured it all out to you. I was very lonely after a divorce, and it seemed like I'd never meet my soul mate. You told me to pray about it and everything would work out like it was meant to, and I did. The very next morning my high school sweetheart knocked on my door. He had gotten divorced too, and in less than a month, we got married! We've been very happy, and I think about you and what you said."

Well, I really didn't know what to say because I'm not religious and am not in the habit of saying to people "pray about it." I might have said that to her because she was a church lady and that's all I could say that would have meant something to her. Verbal hugs, you might say.

Wow! The power of words. You never know what you might say to someone that they'll remember or make a difference. That's why I'm gonna have to watch what I say and not be so harsh and/or abrupt.
