The Oscars

I watched every minute of the Oscars show, mainly just to see the actresses' gowns. I'm a fashion ho--or rather a fashion ho-hum myself.
All the ladies--well most, were wearing beautiful gowns. Glenn Close was an exception. She was up for best supporting actress. She wore what looked like an office blazer over some blah outfit.
Meryl Streep won for best actress--oh go away Meryl. Give somebody else a chance. She had on a gold gown ruched up on one side. I didn't like it much.

Angela Jolie wore a black gown with a slit on one side that went all the way up to her kazoo. Her hair was dyed a strawberry color, and she's had some plastic surgery--she didn't look like herself.
Jolie pulled a stunt in such bad taste it still puzzles me. She was a presenter, and when she got to the microphone, she stuck a leg out of the slit and posed--it looked kinda like the Captain Morgan rum ads. On her show "Fashion Police", Joan Rivers took a mannequin leg and mimicked the pose Jolie did--it was hilarious, because the fake leg looked exactly like the Jolie leg.

Then there was Nick Nolte, looking nothing like himself either. His face, what you could see of it, was red and puffy, like he'd had some chemical peel gone wrong. His hair was snow white, and what with the beard and mustache and all, he was unrecognizable. He seemed kinda out of it too. An interviewer was talking to him, and he seemed disoriented.

The best picture was a silent black and white film made by Frenchmen, titled "The Artist." I'll be dam*ed if I'll pay to see a b/w silent movie. Maybe if it ever comes on HBO, maybe then.
The sound system at the microphone was creepy--it had a high pitched background whine that was so annoying I thought it was my TV but after a while realized it was the sound system on stage. Did anyone else notice that?

I'm just kvetching about the bad parts, the show was rather insipid, and I wish the makeup folks would draw some eyebrows on host Billy Crystal next time , because he looks odd, like he doesn't have eyebrows or eyelashes.
But really, the actresses' really stepped it up because they and their gowns were outstanding, well done and beautiful this year.

Remember those years when many of the gowns were really extreme? Overall, I think better taste prevailed this year. I've got Fashion Police recorded, can't wait to see it. Joan Rivers is a witch, but she's really funny.

I don't have the patience to watch the Oscars. Takes forever. So I catch up with the results after it's over and check out the fashion photos. My favorites were the red gowns. And I'm looking forward to seeing a number of the films — The Artist, The Descendants — but probably on Netflix or on the web, someday.

Hi marta; You have to sit through the endless awards for things nobody gives a toot about and wait for the best actor; actress, and movie at the very end. Next year I'm gonna tune in for the last hour only-

The Angelina leg with its own Twitter account is a riot.

Hi dr; It'll be one of those moments forever embedded in Oscar history--that pose; that leg!

do not knock the Artist movie. It is wonderful and well worth the money.
A great movie and cast.It no where liked the silent film of earlier.
You cannot help and feel good about this one.To each its own.We loved it.
Could care less about the gowns the girls wear.Everyone is trying to out do each other.
The best dress was Christopher Plummer/He was so handsome and suave.

Hi fredo; I hear Plummer was the oldest person to ever win an Oscar--Gee, I thought he was middle aged years ago when he played Capt. Von Trapp in Sound of Music! But I agree, he still looks nice.

People are raving about The Artist. Give it a chance. I'll see it eventually. Maybe if we get Netflix. I'm not holding my breath. Since I never watch the Oscars, I will look through a pop magazine that covers them and see the gowns. One out of ten look elegant. The rest look like a low-end wedding in Guadalajara. And these women, stars or wannabes, don't know how to wear shoes. If you don't have great feet, don't wear sandals. If the heel of the open back shoe is longer than the foot, it's the wrong fit and looks like your playing dress-up in your mother's closet. Duh.

Hi teal; Low end wedding in Guadalajara!! Oh what a laugh!!
I enjoy watching the Oscars for the gowns etc. but they rarely show the actresses shoes--I'd like to get a good look at those too.
How I envy women with slim petite feet who can wear those strappy high heeled sandal type shoes. No, with Neanderthal feet I never could.
