May Days

May 31, 2010. I thought of my ex deceased husband today ,not only because it's Memorial Day and he was an Army and Vietnam Veteran, but because our daughter was born in May 1964 at Fort Sam Houston Texas. I try NOT to think of the labor pains that brought her into this world and the 4 months of morning sicknss associated with the happy event, but of the beautiful smart girl I had.

So I was bemused by these thoughts as I drove to Hattiesburg with my eyeglasses prescriptions in my purse--there was a 1/2 price sale on frames and lenses at an Eyemasters store, today being the last day of the sale. Tina had told me it was located next to Target, but it was the wrong store. The store I was looking for was inside Turtle Creek Mall, and the nearest way to the eye store was through the Belk's entrance. The front entrance to Belk's was torn up and Mexican laborers were pouring fresh concrete. One told me to go around to the side entrance.

Well, there it was a long way from the parking lot just to get to the entrance. I can't walk that far. Oh forget it. So I went to Sam's instead, the second visit since I got a card last year. Sam's didn't have Miracle Whip, or Prego, or Scott toilet tissue, three items I would have bought, so I just rode around and looked and realized I don't need to go to Sam's for anything. I don't need huge amounts of everything like gallon jugs of pickles (last time I bought a half gallon jar of sweet pickles--why I don't know.) I saw some cantaloupes which made me think of my daughter too--I craved them the entire time I was pregnant with her. I got a jar of marinated asparagus spears and strawberries and went home. I had phoned my girl from Sam's and asked if she would like any of the CD's they had there, but she declined.

On the way home I thought of my girl and her struggles to assert herself and and in hippy lingo to "find herself." No one can do it for you, it's a path you have to find yourself. Right now we're getting along like gangbusters, hope it continues.
Well, now I'm gonna get the scissors and whack on my hair and try to even it up--when I go back to the stylist she's gonna fuss about it, but can't stand it sticking out where it shouldn't. You know how it is-- the squeaky wheel gets the grease etc, and the stick out strands get chopped. Have a good one,
