Bill Maher Zinging Mississippi

Bill Maher has an hour show every Friday night on HBO where he discusses current events and politics with a guest panel. Now I'll tell you right up front--I love Bill Maher. I see eye to eye with him on 98% of what he says. Bill is that guy I wish I could meet because we think so alike. Such as: Georgie Bush, Sara Palin, Rush Limbaugh, Glen Beck and their ilk are idiots. Bill respects Gore Vidal and sees him as a great man-- I enjoyed that interview tremendously. Every week I tune in to hear his acerbic comments. However......

Last night I was washing dishes when Bill's show came on. He started making snide comments about Mississippi and Florida. It doesn't take much to throw darts at Mississippi, as he pointed out, we're the state at the bottom of every list--with most teen pregnancies, lowest income, the fattest people, and he intimated--the dumbest. He said "You've got Mississipp Burning, and Mississippi this and that" (all novels by John Grisham.)Oh Bill, don't do that! One of your most loyal fans and viewers lives in Mississippi--me!

I stopped washing dishes long enough to peek around the corner at the TV and hear a black gentleman defending Mississippi, bless his heart. He said Bill, that state has produced some of the finest writers and entertainers the world has known, Tennessee Williams, Eudora Welty, William Faulkner, Truman Capote, Elvis, the blues, etc. So Bill backed down, but I can see his Yankee heart just doesn't know us or he wouldn't have villified Mississippi and Mississippians like that.
