Heard several days ago that Art Linkletter, in his late 90's, has died. He and Arthur Godfrey's voice are so familiar to me. When I was growing up, way back when, Mama had a radio and she listened when she could to Art Linkletter and Arthur Godfrey's shows.
Godfrey would start his show strumming a ukelele and singing "In the Blue Ridge mountains of Virginia..." Mama also listened to radio soap operas like "Ma Perkins" and some others I don't remember. Then we got a little black and white TV. It gave her a slice of life other than the Mississippi backwoods.
I wish I could tell them thank you Mr. Linkletter and Mr. Godfrey, for bringing her some enjoyment back then.
