Hot Head

I'm putzing around on the computer, procrastinating, killing time, because I'm putting off something I have to do. Let me tell you:
The nice man who keeps the yard mowed found out I'm a hot head, a pepper head--I love hot peppers, can't live without 'em. There are two things that have to be in my house at all times--Hershey bars and peppers. On the table I have ground cayenne, black pepper, mixed pepper blend, and jarred jalapeno peppers. Next to the stove is a variety of peppers too, to season food with.

Well, the kind, nice, yard man has grown a bounty of peppers this year and I'm the major recipient of his largesse. (BTW, he hasn't had to cut the grass for a while, it's dying, we're in a drought and a burn ban statewide.) Anyway, he says he and his wife are going on a cruise so he harvests all his peppers and brings them to me. Gallon bags of sweet banana peppers, green cayenne peppers, and jalapeno peppers.
So I give peppers away to anyone who stops by the house--then a couple of days later, he brings three more gallons, and the morning of the cruise, two more gallons--the last pickings before they leave. There are peppers everywhere. I can't stand to see them go to waste, so today I'm forced to go buy a gallon of vinegar, which might not be enough--and salt--then I'll have to dig out jars and sterilize them and pack those peppers in.

I thought about giving jars of peppers for Christmas presents, but stories of home preservation and botulism scare me--I mean I don't mind if I botulize myself, but I wouldn't want anyone else to suffer from it, you know? Anyway, I've got to go and get started.

Bye y'all, susil

I think vinegar and salt would pickle them nicely and you could still have
unique Christmas gifts. I love them too.

Hi jeri; I pickled some asparagus spears one year, and they were absolutely delicious and crispy, everybody loved them and I grudgingly gave away some to a precious few (HAha.)
But lot of folks don't like hot peppers--why? One of the great treats of life!

Speaking of the drought, it is so dry here my fish has scales on them Also I saw two trees fighting over a dog.

I adore peppers (the hotter the better - provided I have a gallon of lager next to me) My husband is a little less partial That, can be a nusciance at times . . . .

I like a bowl of hot chili, with a side of either crackers, a biscuit or piece of cornbread, and a big glass of iced tea. No one can eat the chili as hot as I like it, but since I live alone, I can make it firecracker hot to suit myself!

Funny peppers should come up. Ed has been eating red roasted peppers from jars as a snack. I tried some a day or so ago and this morning I had a major problem and had to postpone a dentist appointment and have been "totaled" all day. The peppers are the only thing I don't ordinarily eat so I am blaming them and too bad because I liked them.

How exciting, a hot time in Mississippi tonight. I kept thinking you'd mention making hot pepper jelly or charring some of them in the oven, peeling, and freezing them. And salsa.

Now if I'd had some red bell peppers I might've thought of charring some of them--but had none of those; all the peppers were immature green ones--some hot, but not at their maximum heat. Already made salsa. Might freee the ones I couldn't pickle.
