"If you can't fix it, you have to stand it." (A line from from Brokeback Mountain but apropos to home ownership.)
I've experienced a lot of the "have to stand it" as a homeowner. After the deluges of rain this winter, a gulley washed out around the culvert at the end of the road. So I phoned the county Supervisor and asked him to have some rocks or gravel put in here to stop further erosion.
He says okay, I'll have the guys come out and put some clay in there. Why do men think women are idiots? I protested saying NO CLAY, because every time it rains, the clay will just wash out down in the ditch. So, kinda unhappy about it, he sent a county truck out and they graveled up both sides of the culvert.
You have to stand some things, and a house, even my little shack, is always needing upkeep in one way or another. Some things I try to get fixed, some things I just stand it. It's really ridiculous, at my age, to have this subliminal desire for a knight in shining armor to come along and pat me on the head and and say "I'll take care of everything, honey." Sigh.
