I'm freezing my ass off here in deep south Mississippi, and sleepy as well. It was down to 22 degrees last night, and with the wind blowing, the chill factor felt even lower. I had to get up every three hours during the night to run water through the washing machine (in a room out on the carport) to make sure the pipes didn't freeze. I have a heater running in that room too.
The air smelled delicious though. Clean, ozone-ated, sharp, crisp, like biting into a Granny Smith apple. I could hear muffled "whump whump whump" sound in the DeSoto National Forest. A Canadian Army unit is doing some training at Camp Shelby--they couldn't do it in Canada because of the snow--so they come down here and the whumps are the reverberations from them firing artillery. Bet this cold makes them feel right at home.
SO! Top sheet, two quilts, and an electric blanket on top kept me cocooned in warmth and snugness--then stick a foot out and start shivering. Gas and electric heaters going full blast. Made a big pot of vegetable beef soup--all fresh ingredients--and a crock pot of hot tea, so anytime I pass by can fill up on good hot stuff.
What with books, newspaper and TV, keeping myself entertained--but couldn't bear to watch GW Bush's farewell speech last night. Caught the very end where everyone was applauding, even the Evil Puppeteer, Cheney. What a farce. AND, too much news coverage of the plane in the Hudson. Great pilot, everyone safe, now get on with it.
