The Bok Homa casino opened about a week ago, so my cousin drove us up there yesterday to scope it out. This casino is a development of the Mississippi band of Choctaw Indians. There are pockets of Choctaw remaining in eight Mississippi counties, plus the main reservation in Philadelphia Miss.
Somehow, though the government tried their damndest to starve them out, run them off to Oklahoma, and otherwise destroy them and their culture, a few managed by a toehold to stay and live here in their native areas. The main body of Mississippi used to be theirs--it was all ruthlessly taken from them. What a bitter pill that must be. If they can take back anything by picking the white men's pockets via a casino, I say good for them.
