Kitty came home yesterday talking about the fire-bellied toads in her classroom, saying that she was worried about them because they have been there just this week, but haven't been fed all week and we needed to go to go some crickets for them. We did. When we were trying to figure out how many to get, the woman at the pet store said that they could eat ten crickets daily and that's how they feed the ones at the store. We were worried that they'd be dead today.
This morning Dolly and Kitty talked with her teacher, who said that she only feeds them once per week. I looked them up on the web. The toad care pages I looked at say they should be fed crickets or other insects daily or two or three to five times per week and they need vitamin supplements once or twice weekly (dusted on the crickets). I guess the teacher knows best, but doesn't match these web pages.
I don't know why they are called toads, when the descriptions make them sound like frogs.
Anyone have experience with these?
Turned in the samples and had blood drawn this morning. My follow-up appointment isn't for weeks, so now I wait.
