I joined the National Osteoporosis Foundation over the weekend. I have bones of a "little old lady", I might as well join the group.
While I'm working on figuring out if I can get out of that category, at the present, I feel fragile. I have never broken a bone, but now there is more potential that I could. Once something breaks and one's activity level is decreased or eliminated, osteoporosis gets worse because you aren't vigorously exercising to avoid it.
It may be that after some time (months, years) of doing the type of exercise that men typically do instead of wasting my time with yoga and tai chi, I gain back some bone density and switch to osteopenia, then recover some more from there to be normal again. It's not clear whether that can happen at my age though.
The exercise I have done means I have some muscular strength and balance, but not like I should.
