Skipping the Debate

The 2nd presidential debate is ongoing as I write this.  I've decided not to bother watching.  The earlier ones, especially the earlier ones between the Republican candidates, I watched simply for their entertainment value.  No Republican candidate would be likely to get my vote, with the possible exception of Ron Paul.
So I watched many of the earlier debates as I would watch, say, "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World."  But I'm finally "up to here" with it all.  I have more than enough information with which to make my vote choice, altho' here in Utah it won't count worth a damn.
Politicians, of any party, are by definition rogues and poltroons, as H.L. Mencken would say.  They have been bought and paid for, and not by you and me or any of the other poor idiots that think they're participating in a real democracy.
I used to think that the U.S. Supreme Court was above the fray, until Bush vs. Gore, and then Citizens United.  My respect for them burned up as it re-entered the atmosphere and fell to earth along with my shock and dismay.
Maybe when I show up at the polls on Election Day they'll recognize me as a non-Mormon and a Democrat (whichever is worse) and shoo me off without allowing me to vote at all...

The minute polls open in Florida for early voting, Ed and I will be in line to vote for Obama. We do not represent the typical Florida seniors (mostly brain dead).

Unfortunately, the "brain dead" appellation applies to a significantly larger percentage of the population than just the seniors. I think the current euphemism is "information deprived."

I couldn't watch it because if he repeated his lack luster performance in
the first debate, it would make my stomach hurt. Even though I live in an
overwhelmingly Republican state, I will still vote. It may not count, but
I will feel better.

He did well -- feel better now?

I can empathize...

Ron Paul?? Are you sane? Here are some choice quotes:
"Given the inefficiencies of what DC laughingly calls the criminal justice system, I think we can safely assume that 95 percent of the black males in that city are semi-criminal or entirely criminal."

"We are constantly told that it is evil to be afraid of black men, it is hardly irrational."

After the Los Angeles riots, one article in a newsletter claimed, "Order was only restored in L.A. when it came time for the blacks to pick up their welfare checks."

One referred to Martin Luther King Jr. as "the world-class philanderer who beat up his paramours" and who "seduced underage girls and boys."

Another referred to Barbara Jordan, a civil rights activist and congresswoman as "Barbara Morondon," the "archetypical half-educated victimologist."

What in the world appealed to you? Or is it just that you don't do research?

Long ago in CA I flirted with becoming a registered Libertarian. I attended several meetings, rallies, etc. It did not last long as I was confronted with their Ayn Randisms and warped social attitudes. One big affair in the Bay area was well attended by the local corps of prostitutes, who like the Libertarian platform (it called for legalization of sex trade.) In those days there were no religious fundamentalists in the Lib Party. Now it is rife with them. Of course, the sex item is gone from their platform. LOL

I flipped back and forth between baseball game pitches, mostly on Obama's turn. Curious as to how he would do. His spontaneous oration was admirable--much improved--smooth, decisive and coherent. Smash hit!

I suspect that, in the first debate, he felt like the muck in the pit was beneath him. He is, after all, the President.

I voted today. I think most of our county is on mailed ballots. Candidates hate this because for the next couple of weeks, every day is election day. If it's something politicians hate, it makes my day.

As a Mormon Democrat, I'm not expecting to be shooed away, but as a west coaster I'm not sure it's worth my time. The outcome is usually decided before I get there.
