I just watched a movie that you should definitely see: The Late Quartet. You can google it and see what it's about. The musical centerpiece of the flick is Beethoven's magnificent Opus 131, his String Quarter No. 14. An incidental centerpiece of the film, for me, was NYC. It made me wish that I lived there. I figured that would interest you.

I just watched this wonderful film. I can't agree with you re Walken. I found his performance touching and perfectly nuanced as the guy at the center of the plot just as Beethoven's magnificent opus 131 was the centerpiece of the story. Strictly by coincidence, I had listened to that string quartet the day before, as it's one of my favorite pieces. I agree that Catherine Keener was excellent in her role. The scene that touched me even more than the final one on stage was just before that when Walken was remembering his late wife and listening to her sing that beautiful aria. Life's tender vicissitudes really played out in this movie; impossible not to be very moved by it.

The products of our childhoods certainly are fodder for trips down memory lane. Too bad we didn't have the foresight to save more than we did, eh? I'd be waxing nostalgic from a beachfront mansion right now had my mother not thrown away my precious baseball card collection that would be worth a fortune now.

Aren't sleeping cats gorgeous? Like children, who can be rambunctious when awake but little darlings while asleep.

I too watch the Bourne flicks over and over. The most recent one, "The Bourne Legacy," stars Jeremy Renner, who is dynamite in the role. RE Kindles, my daughter gave me one but I found it unsatisfying. I much prefer turning real, paper pages. Too old-fashioned, I guess.

My daughter named her now 1 yr old daughter Olivia Grace. Old fashioned but still feminine, unlike old names such as Maud or Gertrude.

Holiday auctions?? You must be living right. I've never won anything; on the other hand, I don't try.

Pelicans are such neat birds! Watching them fish, plunging roughly into the water, then rising back into the air with their catch in that huge gullet, is something to see.

You're fortunate to be surrounded by so many places to eat! That's the one thing that I miss most since moving to the boonies. There is one place here that I could take you to if you came HERE: the Buffalo Bistro, where you could have sausage made from rattlesnake and rabbit (ground together) and delicious wild boar ribs.

The top one makes me think of a kind of Salvador Dali for kids; the last one reminds me of Jack Kerouac.
