After being sick and ending up in the hospital back in February, I made an appointment with my doctor to have my blood profile done. I was less than pleased with my results AND my blood pressure was high.
Blood pressure 150/90.
Total cholesterol 260. HDL 36. LDL 175. Triglycerides 97.
Blood sugar 115.
According to my doctor, I am pre-diabetic. He said I must exercise 30 minutes most days, go on a low sodium diet(less than 2000mg per day) and a low carb diet. I have to take some weight off to avoid diabetes as well as improve my cholesterol numbers. My doctor has given me 3 months to improve my weight, blood pressure and blood profile OR I will have to go on blood pressure medication and/or cholesterol lowering medication.
Now... other than having that bacterial infection in February, I had NO idea that I had these other silent "conditions". Getting sick prompted me to "catch up" on all the neccessary tests that I should have done at this time for my gender and age. And now I'm so grateful for opportunity to fix these problems before they really caused some damage.
I have seriously committed to eater healthier and exercising every day. I am going to show my doctor the absolute best improvement overall that I possibly can when I go back to him in July. (I won't need no stinking medication, lol)
My efforts are paying off.
To date, I have lost 27 pounds.
Blood pressure has been 122/80 on average over the last few weeks.
I have only missed one workout in the last 30 days. I do 30 minutes of cardio most days and have also started strength training.
I have made physical activity a priority in my day by riding my bike more often and walking to places that are within a mile from my home like the library, Tim Hortons, Blockbuster and the drug store.
I can't remember the last time I had heartburn or indigestion.
I am sleeping through the nights like I did when I was in my 30's.
I feel super strong, more flexible, and can take a flight of stairs twice as fast as my husband.
I am on the right path to better health.
