Olympic Opening Ceremony a Bust

Well,  if that was London's "best foot forward" last night, they laid a big flat egg in my opinion.  I thought it was of the most disappointing opening ceremonies that I can remember seeing. I took a nap yesterday afternoon, so I wouldn't get sleepy.  I actually turned the TV off long before it was over.  I was, quite honestly, bored.

On to other things.  Kenzie is coming over later today to spend the night.  We have big plans for baking.  I went to the grocery store early this morning to beat the heat and stocked up on supplies for cookies and cupcakes.  I have the makings for chocolate chip and sour cream cookies as well as a Betty Crocker cake mix for red velvet, which is her favorite.

I tried the Duncan Hines red velvet cake mix a couple of weeks ago and was disappointed in it.  Normally, I prefer Duncan Hines to Betty Crocker, so we shall see.  Red velvet is Kenzie's favorite.  I think she will want cupcakes rather than cake, though.

I am watching Croatia and the U.S. women's basketball team play.  The rims are really tight.   Nobody is getting the "good roll." Neither team is getting anything to go in unless they split the nets.  Right now it's a one-point game with four minutes to the half.  The U.S. looks lethargic.  They need to get their heads in the game.  They beat this team by 55 points in a warm-up to the Olympics.

Comments:

I heard commentary this morning that Beijing's opening ceremonies were one of a kind that no country will ever match. So don't blame England for not being a super star. The Chinese outdistanced everyone.

The opening ceremonies in recent years have been so spectacular that I just could not believe that this one was such a let down.

I didn't see it and am sorry on behalf of England that it didn't go well.

Even the English papers, who tried to put a good spin on it, only gave it a half-hearted note of approval.

It fell so far short of the 2008 Bejing Games. If I were a UK citizen, I would be embarassed.

It was 98% boring and even though Costa (sp?) kept on saying how the march of the countries was moving the fastest he could ever remember it seemed endless!!!

98% boring is absolutely right.
