Mr. Cool ... .And the Boss!

My two companions this past week have been Holly's other two "children"--Bonkers and Mia!  They are shih-tsu's and neither is bigger than a minute.
I call Bonkers Mr. Cool because he thinks he's a real stud--all eight pounds of him.  He has this delusion that he can take on any dog any size.   But the real boss is Mia, a tiny, petite five pounds of white fluff who rules him so easily that it reminds me of a husband and wife.
When it's time to eat, Mia eats first; Bonkers waits.  When he gets put out with her, she will give him kisses to make up.
They have been companions since they were babies, both adopted at the same time from the same breeder.  They love one another fiercely and will brook no outside intruders into their domain.  At one point Holly and Bevan got a golden retriever puppy.  They had to give him away because Bonkers and Mia went on a hunger strike, refusing to eat so long as he was around.
When Holly and Bevan lived in Dallas, they used to dig out of the yard. We finally had to put bricks all around the fence to keep them from digging under it.  It was so funny to watch though.  Mia would dig  while Bonkers stood guard, watching for us to catch them.  Then away they would go as fast as they could, knowing full well that they were in serious trouble.
Once, when they dug out, Bonkers got lost.  We didn't see anything of him for three days.  Holly and I put posters all around and it happened that the people who had found him saw one of the posters.  They called us, telling us that they had him.
When they brought him home, we all thought that Mia would be thrilled to see him.  Instead she gave him a chewing out such as I have never heard before or since.  She barked at him for a good five minutes; and there could be NO DOUBT by her tone that she was giving him a piece of her mind.
As I said, just like a husband and wife!!

Oh my gosh! They remind me of my dogs- also shih-tsu's except that their marriage is more acrimonious. Erin thinks he is the boss of everything and Megan is the jumper and runner. She gets on and into everything and he tattle-tales by barking to alert me... or maybe to scold her.

We love shih-tsus. They don't shed, and they have such personalities.

My old wolf dog used to hold smaller dogs down with his paw when they
were foolish enough to attack him. He was an Alasken Malamute.

Thank goodness he was tolerant enough not to eat them piece by piece.

These dogs sound priceless. I hope the golden retriever puppy found a good home.

They are such fun to watch because sometimes they really do act just like people. Yes, Holly, who is a great animal lover, was very selective in who she gave the golden retriever puppy to.

We have a case here where a large dog may be put to death because he attacked a small dog-the owner of the former insisted the smaller dog instigated everyting and the judge laughed--some of these little dogs think they are labs or bigger dogs or have to prove how brave they are and /or attack, bark, nip at much larger dogs

That judge doesn't know much about dogs. Bonkers would be dead by now if we hadn't watched him like a hawk. He is often the aggressor, as small dogs often are.

Animals can b e so funny. The more they live with people the more they take on our ways.

These two on so "human" at times that it is downright scary.
