My two companions this past week have been Holly's other two "children"--Bonkers and Mia! Â They are shih-tsu's and neither is bigger than a minute.
I call Bonkers Mr. Cool because he thinks he's a real stud--all eight pounds of him. Â He has this delusion that he can take on any dog any size. Â But the real boss is Mia, a tiny, petite five pounds of white fluff who rules him so easily that it reminds me of a husband and wife. Â
When it's time to eat, Mia eats first; Bonkers waits. Â When he gets put out with her, she will give him kisses to make up.
They have been companions since they were babies, both adopted at the same time from the same breeder. Â They love one another fiercely and will brook no outside intruders into their domain. Â At one point Holly and Bevan got a golden retriever puppy. Â They had to give him away because Bonkers and Mia went on a hunger strike, refusing to eat so long as he was around.
When Holly and Bevan lived in Dallas, they used to dig out of the yard. We finally had to put bricks all around the fence to keep them from digging under it.  It was so funny to watch though.  Mia would dig  while Bonkers stood guard, watching for us to catch them.  Then away they would go as fast as they could, knowing full well that they were in serious trouble.
Once, when they dug out, Bonkers got lost. Â We didn't see anything of him for three days. Â Holly and I put posters all around and it happened that the people who had found him saw one of the posters. Â They called us, telling us that they had him. Â
When they brought him home, we all thought that Mia would be thrilled to see him. Â Instead she gave him a chewing out such as I have never heard before or since. Â She barked at him for a good five minutes; and there could be NO DOUBT by her tone that she was giving him a piece of her mind.
As I said, just like a husband and wife!!
