Early Morning Musings

It's early morning; I'm having my  coffee on the patio of Holly's home, enjoying the gorgeous view and listening to the birds warble their morning operas.
Bevan has gone to the airport to drop off Holly, who is flying on the corporate jet to their facility in Kentucky to meet with government officials over some dispute about a contract there.  The jet is coming from Group Headquarters in Dallas to pick her up.
In Holly's company are several locations within a division; then these divisions are part of either an eastern group or a western group.  The lead counsel in Holly's group is on vacation in Aruba; so she desiginated Holly, who is a divisional vice-president, as the acting Group counsel in her stead while she is out of the country.  Hence, the VIP treatment.
The lead counsel in the group is HIGH on Holly; she already has told her that she wants to move her to the group level in Dallas within the next year.
Which brings me to a conversation I had the other morning with Bailey, aka Big Sissy.  She was telling me about a debate they had in one of her classes concerning the superiority of the sexes.
"There are some things men are better at than women; but I definitely think overall that women are superior to men," she said.  "In fact, I think we should have a woman President--but NOT Hillary Clinton," she added. (Bevan is a staunch Republican;  he has his children brainwashed against any Democrat).
"Well, what woman do you think would make a good President?"
"I think Mom would make a great President," she replied.
I had to laugh.  "Did you know that I used to say when your Mom was growing up that it wouldn't surprise me if she became President some day?  She was such an over-achiever and natural leader that I just used that hyperbole to describe  her, "  I added.
Of course, Holly has no political ambitions'; but she has always risen to the top at anything she attempted.  It will NOT surprise me if she is President of her company some day--that is, if she wants to be.  I'm not at all sure that she does, because that would mean a move to New York City, which I don't think she would consider.  Then, again.......

Just think, you could be drinking your coffee on the terrace in NY City and listening to the traffic instead of the birds.

And what's wrong with NYC????

Nothing wrong with NYC. I just don't think Holly would relate well to how cutthroat business people are there. I also don't think she would like the long commute because she would want a home in the suburbs. I just haven't come across anything I thought was appropriate for the other site.

Hi, If Holly lived in New York City, she just might get "won over" by all the fantastic liberal colleagues she will encounter.

Holly is a closet liberal; but living with a die-hard Republican makes political discussion off limits in her house.

Whatever move Holly makes, I hope she will like it.

We have discussed the fact that she can only make ONE more move because Bailey is going into the seventh grade. She knows it is necessary for her to make her next move permanent until Bailey graduates. I think it will be Dallas, although Salt Lake is currently courting her also.

Not New Yawk City! And leave that beautiful house? OMG!

If you have money, New York is a blast. You can have a high rise with a huge terrace and lots of plants, and walk to what you want because you are in the middle of it. If you need the country, you can weekend. What is not to love and, of course, there is the Met (art) and THE MET, opera and ballet, and THEATER, and Central Park. Oh my. And, apparently, Holly has a high achiever's job and salary. Shouldn't be a problem.
