Country Girl/city Girl

People who know me well can still spot the "country girl" in me.  Today, that "country girl" crept back once more as I listened to a band with a lead singer belt out some of those old time gospel songs that I sang as a little girl at the small country church we attended.
I think it's the "country girl' in me that is the source of what people find appealing about me.  I must add that there are a few who don't find me appealing; but not a single one of them has ever met me personally.
Given more than fifteen minutes, I can win just about anyone over.
My roots are important to me, as I believe they should be to every person.  It is from my roots that so much of  who I am is molded, including my religion and my politics.
I believe that people who abandon their roots lose a good bit of who they are.
But back to the topic at hand.  That "country girl" is the better half of me, in many ways because it is where my romantic side resides.  That "country girl" believes all things are possible and that all people are inherently good.
Then, there's the "city girl" who knows that not all things are always possible and that not all people are always good.
It's the "city girl" who studies and reads constantly to expand her knowledge and broaden her horizons;  but it's the "country girl" who has an unwavering faith in the Bible as the inspired word of God.
It's the "city girl" who has educated the "country girl"; but it will be the "country girl" who will be the "city girl's"  saving grace.

"The Old Country Church" by JD Sumner is one of the all time favorite classic Southern Gospel Songs.Stamps.

Lyrics To "The Old Country Church"

By JD Sumner
Oh I’d like to go back
To that old country church
To hear the songs of praise
How the people would sing
It would make the rafters ring
At that old, that old country church
Shall we gather at the river
The beautiful, beautiful river
Gather with the saints at the river
That flows by the throne of God
Oh I’ll never forget
At that old country church
How the Glory of the Lord came down
And the children would smile
As they shouted down the aisle
Of that old, that old country church
In the sweet bye and bye
We shall meet on that beautiful shore
In the sweet bye and bye
We shall meet on that beautiful shore
Then on Sunday I’d see
All my friends dear to me
At that old country church
When it came time for prayer
Everybody would be there
At that old country church
Leaning, oh yes I’m leaning
Safe and secure from all alarm
Leaning, oh yes I’m leaning
Leaning on the ever lasting arm
Now the years have gone by
And so many have died
At that old country church
But they are on that other shore
Where they will sing forever more
As they did at that old country church
I’m redeemed by Love Divine
Oh blessed, Christ is mine
Oh to Him I now resign
I’ve been redeemed
I’m redeemed by Love Divine
Oh I’m blessed
Christ is mine
Oh to Him I now resign
I’ve been redeemed
I’m redeemed by Love Divine
Oh I’m blessed
Christ is mine
There are several  musical versions of this on the internet.  If you would like it hear it, just go to youtube and type in he title of the song.  For some reason, I could not get the musical version I chose to download.

I can sure relate to your last observation. Strength does come from
overcoming obstacles and so does self esteem.

You and I are both country girls who became city girls.

I just love those old church songs. Years ago I started going to church partly because I was looking forward to hymn singing, but they did more of the praise songs, which aren't nearly as much fun.

I still love the old time songs the best also. Gospel singing is probably my favorite part of worship service.

It's lovely to hang on to your roots when they have been good ones. Mine come from my mom, who gave me the building blocks of love.

Most of my memories are good. A few are a bit rough, but I have mostly happy memories of my youth.

Lovely, Teal.
Wishing you well, my friend.

100% city boy here but only with the good traits of a city boy!

I've been awfully fond of some city boys, including you, Martin.

We are indeed a blend of our experiences, starting from our earliest childhood. Hopefully, no matter what happens in our lives, we can focus on all the positive things that have blessed us.

There has been more positive than negative most of my life. The negatives I have experienced have always made me stronger. There is a saying: "That which doesn't kill us makes us stronger."
