Hubs bought 3 New Yorks yesterday, along w/3 brown spuds, a pound of baby broccoli, brie, and our favorite Carr's crackers from Bristol Farms.
Watched the tail end of the Macy's parade and part of the National Dog Show before getting ready to cook.
Today, around 1pm, I sauteed the broccoli and nuked the potatoes while he grilled the New Yorks.
We put a plate of warmed brie out w/the crackers.
2 bottles of Chimay for hubs and son. 1 bottle of riesling for me.
We sipped and snacked until the New Yorks were done... and made several calls to family and friends.
It was nice to break from tradition and have a little family meal that was, well, splendid!
Actually, b/c we eat turkey so much during the rest of the year, this departure was nice.
The last several years, instead of being part of a traditional meal, we've been volunteering at Union Station's enormous provision for the homeless and lower income families.
My bad back prevented us from doing that this year, but son and friend participated in that and then came home to help us prepare for our meal.
The New Yorks were the best we've had in a long time. As if tryptophan were in the meat, we all snoozed after the meal and woke up w/headaches!
I had a glass and a half of riesling, while the boys each drank a goblet of Chimay. Don't know why we ended up w/headaches, but thank goodness for Aleve!
None of us finished our New Yorks, so that will be a nice left over treat tomorrow.
Hope yours was a lovely meal minus any headache!
