Saw an article in todays paper that made me think of my husband and his service to our country. Some lady is trying to get the oldsters to talk.
We never could get much out of my dear. He was gone for about 2 1/2 years in the Pacific, but just didn't want to talk about it. Once in a while he would tell us about his visits to a couple in the Marianas that he met somewhere. They were very nice to him and he flew back to see them once in a while while over there - Marianas, Saipan, etc. He was a control tower operator in the air force. The sea-bees would go in and bulldoze out a strip and then his group came and set us operations. He did say he could hear the Jap soldiers in the nighttime. They would try to sneak in and raid their garbage. The Japanese just moved out and left some there.
He ran into so many old friends from home there - would hear that they were on another island and hitch a aride from the planes and visist them.
The dear is goine and so are his tales. So, I hope she gets lots of things from people like him that didn't tell much.
Have a terrific Tuesday!!! Nena
