Don't Get Left Behind

As you all know, Ray and I do our grocery shopping every Friday after he does his morning bus run. It usually works out nice. It gives us some time together, and it makes the chore a shared task. We actually end up driving north into Massachusetts to do our shopping because it is one of the closest good-sized supermarkets that have good prices.

Well, when we got home, we started putting the groceries away. By the time we were done, I realized that we were missing a few of the canned goods and my restock of razor blades. If it had just been the three cans, I would not have worried too much about it, but the razors are a little pricy so we called the store and learned that we had, in fact, forgotten said bag. I took a few moments before the call to run through the receipt to highlight everything that was missing.

To make matters more interesting, I did not realize that one of the items was actually for my mother-out-of-law. I had been jonesing for grilled cheese this week, so we made sure to stop at the deli and get real cheese. We usually try to go with healthy fat free stuff most of the time, but you can't make grilled cheese with that stuff, because the water that is used to replace the fat leaks into the bread making the whole thing into a mushy mess more like cheesy bread pudding than a sandwich. The new package of butter was not actually meant to be opened at our house.

Poor Ray had to drive up after work to go pick up the bad as well as a new container of butter. It worked out in the end, but I felt bad.

It seems that ever since the grocery bags are on a round lazy susan style thingy... I have forgotten more and more of purchases or the cashier simply forgets to hand them to me, so now I always ask "do I have all my bags" and make them spin the thingy, There is nothing worse than having to make an extra trip back from whence you came... sigh....

you gotta use the fattest cheese possible; it's a must...and throw a picle slice on it sometime; it's plush that way.

I pretty much only use canvas bags, too and they're really handy. Plus those plastic ones are good for much after you get home. I keep one in the car for emergency grocery store trips and then have a whole slew of them at home. Our local grocery store charges for plastic bags to try to get people to switch to canvas. It works.

Life is too short to eat fat free cheese.

I reread this twice because after reading the comments I felt like I missed something. Where did you mention canvas bags? Amazing how these posts take on a life of their own.

Buy one or two and see how it goes.

They only put a few items in each plastic bag, so the canvas ones are often about four plastics.

You didn't read me right--I was making fun of your 'few a week'--a couple a week should do it--I've seen families of 6 carry out their groceries in 4 of these canvas bags.

Forgetting things??? Yep, the 'kid' I knew 3 years ago is getting old!!! KIDDING!!!
Like Alfredo I bought 2 of those 99 cents canvas bags--you will be surprised at how much they hold--I leave them in Allen's car as he takes me to Publix once a week--you really won't have to buy as many as you think you will 'buying a few each week'!

Each canvas bag holds a lot. We bought a two or three to start with. Now we have four in the closet and I have one in my car.

AJ,the canvas bag is a cinch.Mike does it all of the time.
We have five that he takes and works out so well and do not need those
terrible plastic bags that hurt the enviorment.Spell checker did not pick this up.I used canvas bag for most of my shopping.
At the big supermarket they sell this like .99 a bag.

We've done that. Not since we've used our canvas bags that hold way more than those plastic ones, but it's happened.

I prefer fat-free cheese too and you're right, it doesn't work well for some things.
