Weekend Fun and Learning!

The weekend was absolutely wonderful. I went out on Friday night with SB and we had our usual good time. She mentioned the dude that came up to our table saying sorry he was late – that was pretty funny. I thought it was a good pick up line, if only either of us were interested. Haha

Saturday was kinda busy-ish. We went to the library, then out for a FABULOUS lunch, then we dropped off some donations to a local no–kill shelter. We then went home and watched a movie (The Secret Life of Bees! Loved it!) and then went to our fave watering hole after. Good times indeed!

Sunday was the class. Soooo very informative! I loved it! I have applied some of the tactics the speaker mentioned to Kraymer’s walk this morning, and I really think he had fun! It was also interesting to hear again that WE as owners are responsible to keep our puppies out of situations that they can’t cope with. Kraymer had almost every negative factor that can lead to anxiety in his puppyhood. Sad, but true. I feel for the little man and I do plan on doing my best to make sure he can remain calmer during walks. We did a few “Let’s go” runs this morning. This is a tactic to divert the dog’s attention from whatever impending danger he or she is getting anxious about. It really seems to work! We also practiced “Look at me!” all evening and on the walk. I am hoping for some good progress! I learned a lot.

We also learned that when Tucker, who is an infamous sock stealer, acts upon his thievery skills we can say “Kitchen!” and run into the kitchen to give the boys a treat. Tucker would then drop the sock and go to get his treat. Smart, hey? This also works well when Tucker won’t move off the bed – he’s been growling at us and we’ve been handling it all wrong! We were pushing him off the bed, apparently that isn’t the right thing to do because the dog is warning us, by growling, saying that he doesn’t like what we are doing. By pushing him off the bed anyways he might not warn us next time seeing as we are “daft” humans that aren’t getting the message – and the next step would be to bite, which of course we do not want. It's all about the positive training!

I will stop going on about the class but I found it truly enlightening and I am looking forward to the upcoming classes we are enrolled in.

It’s a Monday!
