Yesterday as I was driving back to work after lunch at home with the boys I noticed my car was acting a little weird. I thought I left my parking brake on but I hadn't, so I was like I dunno what the deal is and I carried on.
Halfway to work a light lit up on my dashboard in a place you don't want to be lit up. Panic ensued as I had visions of being stuck in the middle of a 4 lane highway. What the h-e-double hockey sticks did this little light mean???? I took a picture of it and sent it to a friend from home who knows cars. He texted me back saying it was hard to see but that it looked like a check engine light.
Total stomach drop. Was I going to be stranded before I reached work??? Not to mention I have no cash for this business.
When I got to work (Phew!) I got out my cars manual. Now this part is kinda funny. I flipped to the page that had pictures of the lights and underneath the light that was on it had a picture of <--- and --->. So I thought the light was indicating to me that a turn signal might be out. Don't ask me how my mind works, I am just glad there are times it does. So I proceed to turn on my hazards and much to my chagrin all the blinkers are working. I return to the manual and realize that under the picture of the light that lit up was telling me to flip to another page, and the <--- and ---> was simply another picture telling me about hazard lights. Yup. Welcome to my world people.
So I come upstairs with my manual to do further research. I talk to SB who tells me to check the oil. I talk to a co-worker (not from my department mind you) who tells me the same thing happened to him on a Honda he had, it was the gas cap being loose. I had hopes this was minor!
I went back to my car and checked the oil. It looked low to me but there was oil in it so I wasn't too concerned. I also checked the gas cap. It was on and intact. Dayum it!
I emailed R about my worries and he said that he'd be right behind me on the way home (he goes virtually the same path as me but a bit later) not to worry, and that he'd check it when we were home. I ask him how he planned to do this outdoors in a parking lot that isn't well lit. He informs me God has invented flashlights. haha Isn't he smart? :0)
So last night after he walked the boys he took a flashlight and checked all the fluids on my car. I offered to hold the flashlight, with full intent on doing so cuz I wanted to see the step by step process (but it was COLD!) but he told me not to worry about it, he'd take care of it. *Love him*
After he checked it out he said nothing was amiss in the fluids department, and the oil I had been worrying about was at a fine level, but not as full as it could be.
Alas, I hafta take my car in to be diagnosed. We were going to drop it off tonight and R was going to take me to and from work tomorrow. While he's awesome to offer that up, I wasn't too happy about it seeing as I wouldn't be able to give the boys a mid day walk and would have felt stuck here. Then the amazingly brilliant boy suggested I call to see if I could drop it off Friday night instead. So I did. And I can. So I will. haha I also asked if I was potentially harming my car by continuing to drive it with that light on, the guy at the shop said as long as it's not blinking it should be ok. Phew.
Anyways, last night I was just like man, I have the bestest boyfriend EVER invented... I am a lucky girl.
Happy Thursday people!
