I had a request to do a "commission." The person wanted a painting of their house and barns. About a 24 wide by 18 high canvas. I quoted $400. They countered $75. I didn't even answer the counter. Maybe I should tell them that for seventy-five dollars I would give them a nice 5 x 7 photo? LOL
People don't realize how much work and how many hours go into a painting.

You can have talent without focus and never do much. You are an inspiration to the rest of us.

Very nice. I notice that you have done a lot of trees recently?

Because I am painting landscapes on the Monterey Peninsula. The trees there are not found anywhere else in the world. The Monterey Cypresses and Monterey Pine are indigenous to that area. I love their appearance and they are certainly good subject matter. I feel that I worked on the vineyards long enough (19 paintings). Also, the first one I did in the Monterey series since 1985 swold in June for $500 four hours after I put it in the gallery, so...

I'm amazed by artistic types, like you and Dottie. Isn't that a gift? Because I really don't think I could ever even LEARN HOW to do something like that. Beautiful start to a beautiful painting.

I believe we all have a "gift." I don't believe in "talent," as an excuse. I think something inspiring happens early in life where we acquire an interest that spurs development.
